N&A's wedding was held at the Sun n Sand Hotel on Mumbai's famed Juhu beach. It was the climax of the multi day marriage celebrations. The evening was spectacular, yet what made the difference for me was the extreme hospitality and kindness of the couple's family and friends. Here is part 2 from the Mumbai wedding. The bride's cousins hired a choreographer to coordinate their efforts in hosting an amazing reception and ring ceremony (which is not part of the marriage tradition in India). They had a 'model runway' where the bride and groom's family members were presented to the hundreds of guests. It was a beautiful and vibrant night!

I met Chris & Debbie during Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership in Mexico last week. They both are VPs at the Lampo Group, Inc. As they shared their story and later some business suggestions, it was clear that they are passionate about each other, their work, and the ultimate purpose of the Lampo Group, Inc. : bringing hope and financial peace.

Friday was their 10th wedding anniversary, and to celebrate we had a photo session on the beach. While we walked, the setting Caribbean sun glowed.

Even with a 50% chance of rain, the day turned out to be beautiful at MSU's Hidden Lake Gardens. Ryan and her mother Jeri were very easy going, and totally awesome to work with. Ryan loved laughing, which made the time a lot of fun.

One more day in Michigan, and then to Mexico on Sunday.

Haarlem, Holland | Ten Boom House

I spent Friday morning in Haarlem, while waiting for my flight to Detroit. Since I arrived there by train early in the morning I was able to see the city wake. There was something very calming about the city. The streets and bicycles took me back to memories of "The Hiding Place", a movie about the powerful story of Corrie Ten Boom and family. The Ten Boom family provided refuge (illegally) for the Jews during the Holocaust were later sent to work in concentration camps when they were caught. Corrie survived the painful years and "The Hiding Place" tells a bitter, yet beautiful story of the hope that sustained her throughout the journey.

I cherished my visit to the Ten Boom Musuem in Haarlem. I toured the house one-on-one with Mr. Peter, a king and knowledgeable local who volunteers as a guide. Below is a picture of Corrie's room and the actual hiding place, which saved the life of six jews and became the title of Corrie's book.

What a great reminder that sometimes doing what is right and good hurts. If you want to find out if it was worth it, read "The Hiding Place".

Performer in India | Two photo sessions available in the USA

Last night I had dinner at a restaurant that is set up like a typical village. Everything glowed in the aura of candlelight. There were no chairs; guests simply made themselves comfortable on the floor. While waiting for dinner to be served, this performer balanced sticks on his upper lip as he maneuvered them with his tongue to enter the hollow balls, forming them into a circle. It was amazing.

Because of the lowlight, I was glad for ISO 3200 on my Nikon, enabling a decent handheld exposure.

Next Friday, the 30th of October, I will be making a quick trip to the USA, before heading to Mexico to photograph and participate in Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership® conference.

Katie & Ryan | Grand Rapids, Ohio | Nazareth Hall

Photographing Katie & Ryan's wedding was very enjoyable. We had a colorful engagement session earlier this year (with one ice-cream break) in the village of Blissfield, and after getting to know them, both Sarah and I were really looking forward to their wedding day. They chose the Nazareth Hall Estate for their ceremony and reception. I had never been there before, but I fell for it. The 400-acre property, elaborate brick mansion, huge glass windows, and old-world beauty combined perfectly. Every aspect of the day went as planned. The only exceptions was the 'blowing up sparklers'. Thankfully no one was hurt, and it made for some emotive images. See below.

Haridwar, India | Evening Aarti

Haridwar is one of Hinduism's holy cities. Every night huge crowds gather by the Ganges River for the Aarti (evening prayer). Pilgrims who have traveled often release diyas: small floral floats with candles. The woman in the above images is preparing and placing her diya into the river.

India reverberates with vibrant reds and rich blues. Color and ancient tradition mix and leave no room for dull moments. I am excited for what is to come in these next few months as I dip my toes into this subcontinent, explore its culture, and pursue wedding photojournalism.

The Bakers | Family Session

Greetings from India! These last three weeks I've been very busy wrapping up some amazing jobs in the US, and getting ready to head East. Needless to say, the blog has suffered some hard times of neglect, and I hope to make up for it with some quality TLC. No better way to start then with the Baker's session. My parents and Donna graduated from high school together, and have been long time friends. For two years I had the fun privilege of driving Sarah, Jake, Mark, and Adam to school. Through sleepy eyes, coffee, and granola bars we learned to appreciate each other (and we only had one flat tire). Busy would be an understatement for the Bakers, but their fun loving attitudes and commitment hold them together. I was excited that we found a date for their session. We used their farm fields, country roads, red barns, and lake house for the pictures and what fun we had!

I met Jordan and Lindsay last year for the first time during their engagement session, and from that point I discovered how cute, and oh how expressive they are together. Their wedding and ceremony were packed with fun and love. Weddings like these really remind me of how much I completely love my job. Have a fantastic holiday weekend everyone!

And the toasts? Oh my, they made me want to be a videographer... they were hilarious. I had to concentrate on not crying and just shooting.

Although it poured and stormed before the ceremony the weather cleared up and we were able to have some fun shooting time in downtown Adrian. Portland's Living Room | Mike

I spent two hours hanging out at the Pioneer Courthouse Square, better known as Portland's living room. While I talked and photographed, three intense chess games were going on. Many Portland men use their lunch breaks and any free time to come over and get a good game of chess in.

Mike (pictured above) was born in Romania, but has yet to return after moving to Portland 25 years ago. With the history of being an extremely successful fine art photographer, he loves black and white film and Carl Zeiss lenses. He quit photography when he moved to Portland, and now enjoys spending most of his afternoons watching chess. Like I, he doesn't play, only watches. Photography is watching, really seeing, not just looking.

Claus & Cidinara's Wedding | Brazil

I flew in from Brazil yesterday and had an absolutely fabulous time. One of the highlights was photographing Claus & Cidi's simply beautiful wedding. It was held at the beautiful Trufas de Chocolate, the newest event house in Castanhal. The breakfast wedding was simple, elegant, and filled with humor. I have known Claus for over three years and his keen sense of humor is always contagious. Cidi was beautiful and emotional throughout the morning, but Claus' humor balanced it out.

Eu cheguei ontem de viagem e tive um tempo absolutamente fabuloso no Brasil! Um dos pontos altos da viagem foi a oportunidade de fotografar o lindo casamento do Claus e da Cidinara. O casamento aconteceu no Trufas de Chocolate, uma das mais novas e lindas casas de eventos em Castanhal. O casamento, que aconteceu de manha, teve um saboroso café da manha que foi muito elegante. Eu conheço o Claus a mais de três anos, e o seu senso de humor sempre foi contagiante. A Cidi estava linda e emocionava-se ao percorrer da manha, mas o humor do Claus sempre ajudou!

(Below) Claus printed out a little sign that on one side said "I love you" and on the other "Smile, it's your wedding". It was so funny, and multiple people held it, so that throughout the ceremony Cidi could be reminded to smile! :)

There was a Starbucks one block from R&E's wedding, so I was thrilled to get my triple tall caramel macchiato! Before we moved into R&E's portraits, we stopped in. These two wonderful ladies from the Edmonton Starbucks, declared that everything was on the house to celebrate R&E's wedding. Andrew & Molly Wedding | Adrian | Country Club

Andrew & Molly's wedding Saturday was one of the funnest I've had the honor of capturing. Part of the fun was shooting in familiar locations, part was that more than half of the guests were friends. However, beyond a doubt what made the day, was the incredible amount of energy. Molly's eyes sparkled and Andrew glowed. The groomsmen and bridesmaids were amazing to work with and game to different ideas.

The reception (Lenawee Country Club) was intense, and boy was there dancing. It is so energizing as a photographer, to be out on the dance floor, shooting away in the midst of joyous celebration. It's contagious.

Thank you Molly and Andrew for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful, God-honoring wedding.

I just left Chicago and I'm flying towards Edmonton, Alberta. This Saturday I will be photographing yet another amazing wedding, Ralph & Esther's. It is going to be held in downtown Edmonton and the forecast looks perfect.
